Category: Trail Info

Trails are logically distinct components. A trail can be ten meters long or 100,000 meters. Trail Info category indicates a post that has detailed specific information describing a particular trail. For posts describing a suggested route that uses one or more trails, use the Ride Route category INSTEAD.

Trail VV

Trail VV (Via Viguera) is a vegetation-tight singletrack trail hanging on the edge of the hill (barely) in poor condition. Several sections through ravines are prone to washout during the rainy season. Thus, expect hike-a-bike on some sections. Trails leads down into the town of Trinidad de Viguera.

Trail SP

Trail SP (StinkyPoo) is an easy doubletrack that heads downhill southeast off the middle of Trail A (Abuela (Grandmother)). It turns into a dirtroad and turns back to the west and down into a ravine. You can either stay on the road as it heads south and slightly west, or look for a singletrack trail on the west side of the road an the low point of the ravine crossing. The singletrack also heads south, climbing slightly, but stays a bit more up (west) on the ridge. Note that Trail ED (Espina D (Spine)) is due west. From the southern terminus of Trail SP you can go east on Trail MC (Milpa Camino (Cornfield Road)) to head towards San Felipe del Agua, or you can go west to connect over to the middle of Trail ED.

Trail Es

Trail Es (Escapula (Scapula)) is a brush-tunnel shortcut that climbs slightly from its junction with the lower (i.e. south) end of Trail RR (Rojo Runout), just west of the junction of Trail RR and WFR (West Frontage Road), over to Trail ED (Espina D (Spine)). It’s a nice way to hook up with Trail ED without having to climb Trail RR.

Trail WFR

Trail WFR (West Frontage Road) is a doubletrack (though a small section has reduced to singletrack) trail that borders the west side of Road LNR (Libramiento Norte Road) as LNR summits the pass between the Oaxaca de Juarez/San Felipe del Agua valley and the Trinidad de Viguera/Etla valley. At the south and north ends where it ties into Road LNR the tread is a rough dirt road. As it parallels LNR, it climbs steeply on each end so as to reach an elevation about 15 meters higher than LNR. I.e. LNR has a gentler grade as it cross the pass than WFR. The main usefulness of Trail WFR is that is allow access to several trails on the west side of Road LNR near the pass summit (e.g. Trails A, ED, Es, and RR). Trail ZZ (Zig Zag) provides a shortcut between the middle of WFR and LNR below. Handy for crossing from Trail TTT over to the aforementioned trails on the west side of LNR without having to descend on LNR to only re-ascend on WFR.

Trail V

Trail V (Vela (Candle)), a member of The Smoking Section collection, runs from an offshot of Trail LLL (Larry’s Lacerated Leg) where it passes under the electrical tower and down to Trail TTT (Toro Toro Toro (Bull Bull Bull). Singletrack all the way, goat-trail tread at the start, turning into a narrow water-cut rut at the bottom. Poor exit/entry onto TTT. If you like twisty, vegetation-shrouded, barely-there singletrack with ruts, some drops, and occasionally vanishing tread, you’ll love this trail and all the other trails that make up The Smoking Section collection.
